Living alongside nature

We are the new kids on the block

Simply residing along what’s already been here 

The upstairs neighbors to the tiny bandits down below

Listening to domestic disputes

Intruders and fights for food

We are not the only ones tested by winter

The skunks being the culprits, the thieves

But in their own desperation, they are looking for a place to stay

The raccoon says “get out!”

The skunk squeals and sprays away

Humans simply in the crossfire of what’s already been at play 

A test and a reminder of humanity and the cycles of each and every day
